New in the House

Joseph Andrew Snider / Founder

The name comes
from my family.

The work begins with care.

Benincasa / a family name

A house built
through the work.

Benincasa was Joseph’s grandmother’s surname. It carries a responsibility to honor what came before and take care with what comes next.

Original art and objects, restoration, material studies and personal commissions are the present practice. First House gives that practice a place to meet the world.

Bold geometry, layered meaning and a reward for a second look shape the visual language. Materials keep their character; an object’s history remains part of the encounter.

A place’s story reaches beyond its present name. Our practice makes room for the people, makers and natural histories it carries—crediting what can be verified and leaving room for what we are still learning.

Welly Wood and Vera Veer are distinct nonprofit corporations being developed around learning, repair and charitable access. Their work has its own purpose and responsibilities.

THE CHI IS IN THE G.

A working discipline

01 / Source

Know the material.

Record what is known about origin, condition and ownership. Keep unknowns visible.

02 / Transform

Name the choices.

Identify what was retained, altered, restored or newly introduced.

03 / Document

Carry it forward.

Let the object’s record and care travel with it.

Family craft. Humble service. Protected value.

The G Benincasa family of work is rooted in Joseph Snider's family story: Lucy Benincasa's craft and hospitality, Wellington Marston Taft III's example of service and stewardship, and Mamma's care for things that still hold meaning. Those influences continue through G Benincasa Estética's authored design practice, Welly Wood's developing wood-learning mission, and Vera Veer's developing repair and reuse work.

A maker’s eye.
A practical foundation.

Joseph’s work brings together restoration, engraving, design and the experience of building and running a service business. The Golden shop and its seasoned wood give the next objects a practical starting point.

The intention is simple: make something worth looking at, worth asking about and worth keeping.

The values, in practice

The care is
in the doing.

Before the launch, there was the work.

Joseph discovered the Hall’s vault in a storage unit, personally funded and organized its recovery, and brought together the collaboration that carried its restoration forward. That persistence is part of the foundation of G Benincasa Estética.

First House in Morrison is the setting for the brand’s next chapter. A recovered object and a historic place each bring attention to materials, memory and what deserves to continue.
